class descriptions

We believe that Ballet is the foundation of dance.  To excel in Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, etc., Ballet is necessary.  Although students are not required to enroll in Ballet class, it is highly recommended.

Our “Creative Movement” classes welcome children as young as age 2.5 years.

Which class is right for you?

Most of our classes are listed with a general age recommendation.  However, please keep in mind that this is a suggestion, and not a strict age requirement.  All students learn and thrive at different times and at their own pace!  Our goal is to help place your young dancer in a class where they will most excel!

For Ballet and Jazz, classes are listed as Level 1, 2 and 3 in a manner that generally coincides with a specific age group. Students who have been dancing since early childhood may at this point be recommended to continue into level 4 and 5 classes. Enrollment in these advanced level classes require Teacher Recommendation, as they are highly technically focused and designed for the more serious and professionally-focused dancer.

Students who are new to D2D or are unsure if they are eligible for these higher level classes should enroll based on age group.  If applicable, upper level recommendation may be made during the first two weeks of class.

Creative Movement
(Ages 2.5~3.5 Years)

Bitty Boperinas:
This class is deigned to give your little one the space to move and groove! We will introduce principal ballet terminology and familiarize your toddler with this foundational dance genre, as well as offer an energized and enriching environment to dance and “bop,” till they drop!  This class aims to not only work on developing skills such as balance, coordination and rhythm, but also serve as a great reinforcement for your soon-to-be pre-schoolerr to work on following directions and other listening and attention skills, as they pertain to the studio classroom.

Taps & Tip-Toes:
During this 60 minute class,  your dancer will have the opportunity to explore not one, but TWO exciting styles of dance!  The class is divided into two, 30 minute portions.  During the first thirty minutes, your young dancer will continue to build a strong ballet foundation, in creative and exciting ways. During the second portion of class, dancers will switch into tap shoes to explore rhythms, coordination, and tap technique and terminology.

Tiny Tumblers:
This class is an early introduction to the Acrobatic Arts and Tumbling. This exciting class is a young mover’s dream! Similarly to our other Creative Moment classes, this class will encourage balance and coordination, as well as physical strength and self-esteem.  Furthermore, our tiny tumblers will be introduced to the practice and importance of stretching while building our muscles, body awareness, and even several beginning acrobatic poses and rolls!

Bright Beginnings
(Ages 3~5 yrs)

Pre-Ballet: “Bitty Ballerinas”
An exciting start for your young  Ballerina that LOVES to dance.  We include instruction on the fundamentals of Ballet, set in a fun and nurturing environment.  In addition, children will gain coordination, self-esteem, balance, body awareness, and rhythm.
Pre-Jazz: “Jazzy Babes”
This class is closely related to the foundational elements of the Pre-Ballet curriculum, except that this high energy class focuses on the principles of strong Jazz technique and choreography.

“Hip Hop-erinas”
(Ages 4~6 years)
This 60 minute class is broken up into two, half-hour segments.  The first half will focus on building a strong ballet foundation - we will learn proper ballet terminology, while emphasizing both balance and gross motor skills.   During the second half of class, we'll switch up the music and turn on the tunes! The Hip Hop portion of this class will strive to improve rhythm, coordination, and a strong working memory for your young dancer.

Ballet/Pointe

Dancers learn Ballet terminology, technique, movement, balance, grace and control.  Ballet technique is the underlying strength for all types of dance.

  • BALLET 1: (Ages  4~5 years)
  • BALLET 2: (Ages 6~8 years)
  • BALLET 3: (Ages 8~10 years)
  • BALLET 3-4: (Ages 9-13 years) (Pre-Pointe)
These classes are designed for the Ballet dancer who has completed at least 5 years of Ballet training and is accepted into Pointe by teacher invitation only:

  • BALLET 4: (Pre-Pointe/Beginning Pointe) - Approx. 5 year of Ballet training
  • BALLET 4-5: (Advanced Ballet/Pointe) - Approx. 6-8 years of Ballet training
  • PRE-PROFESSIONAL - BALLET 5 : Approx. 8-10 years of Ballet Training
Students may begin work en Pointe with teacher approval.  We do not recommend students go up on pointe until at least 12 years old.  In addition to requiring proper ankle and front strength to safely dance in pointe shoes, going up on pointe prior to this age risks damage and long-term injury to underdeveloped growth plates in the feet.

Jazz

Dancers will learn stylized Jazz movements.  Balance, agility, flexibility, turns, leaps, quickness of movement, and Jazz technique are included in this curriculum.

  • JAZZ  1: (Ages  4~5 years)
  • JAZZ 2: (Ages 6~8 years)
  • JAZZ 3: (Ages 8~10 years)
  • JAZZ 3-4: (Ages 9-13 years)
______________________________________________________________
  • JAZZ 4 : By Teacher Invitation
  • JAZZ 4-5: By Teacher Invitation
  • PRE-PROFESSIONAL-JAZZ 5: By Teacher Invitation
If you have not yet been placed, or are new to the studio, please register for the class that best aligns with your age group. Adjustments may be made by your teacher after the first class(es).

  • “TEEN JAZZ:”(Ages 11-14)
  • “JAZZ ‘POP!” (Ages 12-14) This exciting class is designed to engage  the best of both: a strong practice in reviewing foundational jazz technique, as well as plenty of exposure to some of today’s most  iconic “pop” choreography trends!

Hip Hop

Dancers learn a street style of Jazz, similar to what you might see in a music video.  This is a very aerobic form of dance.  We suggest you take Jazz class and add Hip Hop if interested in this funky style of dance.

Triple Threat

A class geared toward the true triple threat!  Using dance as the main focus, we will explore movement in the musical theatre sense; incorporating our voice and characters skills.  Non-singers welcome.  Enhance your performance ability by diving deeper into the essence of character.  Dancing to new musicals like Legally Blonde, Shrek, and the Addams Family, as well as exploring traditions such as Annie, Hairspray, Chicago and Fame - this class is sure to be a high energy, exciting class, complimentary to any other dance discipline and sure to strengthen and improve each and every dancer!

Lyrical & Contemporary

Intended for intermediate and advanced dancers who will work on stylized dance to contemporary music.  A good combination of both Jazz and Ballet technique are taught in this class.

Lyrical classes are offered to our younger dancers starting at age 7. This softer genre is an opportunity for our younger dancers to experiment with the fluidity and grace which lyrical requires, outside the typical structure of either ballet or jazz,   However, it is HIGHLY encouraged that students who wish to enroll in lyrical also take ballet.

Contemporary is offered only to our advanced dancers who have achieved level 4 or above in both Jazz and Ballet. Improvisation is also explored in this class.

Tap

We bring fun to teaching basic rhythms, coordination, movement, tap technique and terminology.
Tap classes are primarily based on age and tap experience. Enroll by age level, and teacher adjustments will be made where appropriate.
Advanced Tap is for students with at least 3 or more years of tap experience.

Video Pop & Media Masters

These classes  focus on dance and acting as a combined skill set.  While the world continues to change and adapt to a more virtual culture, the entertainment industry thrives on a digital platform.  We will be working with our students to channel their theatrical talent in a way that is geared for the commercial world.  Students, with the help and guidance of their teacher, will collaborate to create and produce their very own TV style Commercial Advertisement and Music Video!

Check out the videos below to view some of our amazing student work!
Media Masters is the newest addition to our D2D curriculum.  This class, geared toward our older students, will not only challenge dancers to embrace their inner actor, but also encourage them to have a hand in the creative process.  The goal of this course will not only be for dancers to perform, but produce their own work....from understanding what makes a strong commercial  storyline, to brainstorming creative  music video visuals,  this class will offer the unique opportunity for students to be involved in all aspects of the media-making process!
